Toronto F.C. striker Danny Koevermans continued his hot streak by scoring the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Tauro F.C. on Tuesday night.
Coming into the game, the 32 year-old Dutch striker was awarded MLS Player of the Week honours for his two goal performance in a match only three days prior. Against Tauro F.C., Koevermans struck again, this score was his first goal in CONCACAF Champions league action. In the 40th minute, Torsten Frings crossed a dangerous ball into Tauro F.C.’s box which reached to Ashtone Morgan. Morgan then flicked the ball to Koevermans who headed the ball over the goalkeeper into the back of the net.
As the first half ended, the Tauro F.C. players shared a few unkind words with referee Terry Vaughn as they walked off of the field. This dispute did not help Tauro F.C., as the referee issued three yellow cards to Tauro players in a span of four minutes (67, 69, 70 minutes).
TFC was also booked in the second half with the crucial one occurring in 90th minute. In the last minute of the game, Tauro F.C. attacked near the TFC box and was awarded with a free kick four yards in front of the box. On what ended up being the final play of the game, Tauro’s free kick could not succumb to TFC’s wall, securing the victory for TFC.
During the post-game conference, TFC Coach Aron Winter discussed his strategy of using a different formation depending on the opposing team’s strengths and other tendencies. In particular, Torsten Frings was moved from his natural position of midfielder to sweeper in the past two games to provided a more secure defensive unit. When asked about switching Frings to sweeper for the long-term, Winters was reluctant to use only one formation and responded, “It’s an option, he can play in that role and he can play it well.”
Although Frings would prefer to go back to midfield, he respects the coach’s decision. “It’s not my decision, it’s the coach’s decision, I feel that the team likes that I play back there and we’ve been playing well with me back there. But at the end of the day, I am a midfielder and I’d like to play midfield again in the future.” Frings said through a translator following the game.
With the victory, Toronto FC remains in third place in Group C with six points, one point behind FC Dallas and Pumas UNAM. With two more matches remaining for each team, TFC is now in a position to control its own destiny. The team will now head to Los Angeles for a regular season MLS match against Chivas on September 24. Following that match, the team will return back to BMO field to face-off against Pumas, the team based out of Mexico City on September 27. A win against Pumas will almost assure TFC as one of the two teams advancing to the quarterfinal round. TFC wraps up their CONCACAF league play in Dallas on October 18.
Note: Koevermans has scored seven goals since joining TFC in mid-July.

在赛后新闻发布会上，多伦多队教练阿隆·温特斯（Aron Winter）阐述了其依据不同对手的强弱点而制定不同阵型的策略。特别是将弗英丝从原中场位置调至拖后中卫的，司职防守。当被问到是否会将弗英丝彻底调至后腰位置时，温特斯并表示不愿意运用单一阵型，并说道，“这是其中的一个选择。他（弗英丝）可以踢那个位置，并且踢的很好。”
虽然弗英丝更喜欢踢中场，但是他尊重教练的决定。“这并非我的选择，而是教练的。我想队伍喜欢我在后边一些，并且我在后边我们表现很好。但是终归我是名中场球员，我想将来还能再回到中场。”这位来自德国的名将、同时也是多伦多FC的队长赛后通过翻译说。
伴随着这场胜利，多伦多FC以积分6分，落后达拉斯FC和Pumas UNAM一分的成绩排在C组第三。目前每队只剩下两场比赛，多伦多FC的命运掌握在自己手中。然而9月24日，多伦多FC在洛杉矶打MLS常规比赛输给对手芝华仕队。因此9月27日在BMO主场与来自墨西哥城的对手PUMAS对的比赛变得尤为重要，将决定多伦多是否能作为两支出线球队之一挺进四分之一决赛。10月18日，多伦多将在达拉斯结束他们的CONCACAF征程。
