Toronto Raptors sign Pietrus, waive McGuire

TORONTO, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) — The Toronto Raptors announced on Friday they have signed free agent forward Mickael Pietrus.

The nine-year veteran has played a total of 538 NBA games and has averaged 8.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 21.5 minutes per game.

Pietrus, 6-foot-6, 215 pound, joined the league in 2003 when he was selected 11th overall by the Golden State Warriors. He spent five seasons with the warriors and has spent the past four seasons between Orlando, Phoenix, and Boston.

Prior to joining the NBA, Pietrus began his professional career in his native France with Pau Orthez. He played four seasons with the club, averaging 9.0 points and 2.6 rebounds in 94 games.

Since the Raptors’ roster reached the limit of 15 players on the roster, a transaction needed to occur to free up a roster space for Pietrus. To make room for Pietrus, forward Dominic McGuire was waived.

McGuire began the season with sparse minutes, but became a starter following the injuries of forwards Alan Anderson and Landry Fields. All in all, McGuire appeared in 15 games (nine as a starter), averaging 2.1 points and 3.2 rebounds this season.
